Federal Government Owned Enterprise
Today, the ENTERPRISE is open for business in 39 out of 49 countries across sub-Saharan Africa.
Driven by ENTERPRISE’s Sub-Saharan Africa mandate, its’ strategy is founded on partnerships, for and with U.S. corporates, Diaspora, African entities and like-minded partners. In support of U.S. exports to the region, various MOUs have been signed with African financial institutions and governments.
ENTERPRISE’s support typically takes the form of guarantees or insurance of lender loans to African buyers. These products can mitigate the transaction risks for the lender so African buyers can obtain funds at lower rates and for longer terms. The borrower can be sovereign or sub-sovereign governments, public-sector entities, or private-sector buyers.
The IMPORT guarantee to the lender covers 100 percent of the financed amount. It is unconditional, transferable, and can also cover up to 50 percent of local costs. This support is available for medium-term (typically up to five years) and long-term (more than seven years) repayment, depending upon the type of export and transaction size.
The agency also has short-term financing. ENTERPRISE’s export credit insurance reduces the risk of buyer nonpayment while providing the opportunity for U.S. companies to offer open account credit terms for their African customers.
ENTERPRISE has no transaction size limit and can consider various transaction structures. Extended repayment terms depend on the project, but could be up to 12 years for conventional power and up to 18 years for renewable-energy and potable water projects.
